who knows anything about big blocks?

OTHER than they're expesive as hell to build.

my boss just bought a 454 engine, that's in pieces. they say it's been bored 60 over with a 110 crank. I don't even pretend to know what that means, but, it sounds good! ;) I know how to put engines together, I just don't know what parts to buy and shit. anybody out there got tips or parts layin around?

well i no a lil about a 454 but i dont no anything about that 110 you may need to go get a book on it to see if that is the stock but if you are going to build it you need to go get better parts because if you is truely bored 60 over then it may f@#% up the stock part and you will be rebluiding it again and again and you need to make sure it is bored over 60 because if you get part for bored over motor they may not w im just helping you out with what i no

i know a bored 60 over 454 makes it about a 502 and a 60bores about as much as you want to bore a motor, they start to run alot hotter after a bore that big... that 110 crank ive never heard of but every mechanic i know can read pretty good cause they all have books to stuff like that.. its just like a nurse or a doctor they always having to look back in a book to make sure thats right..that and i am sure the internet would be a pretty good friend to you in that department as well but ill never be one to call myself a mechanic i just know something about motors..

its probably a 1010 crank which means the rod journals have been turned .10 and the mains have been turned .10 they do this to clean up the crank and you have to run different bearings my block is 60 over and its good ive seen bigblocks bored 100 over before but those were drag only motors the guy ive alwasys used to do machine work is charlie ray at ray engine hes from the old school and he knows his shit if you have any questions just call him his number is 903-531-2336 hes done everymotor ive ever built and if you have questions he will explain to you in detail not the type of guy to just blow you off. i usually let him put my short blocks together because he dont charge much like two hours labor but he can check the block and crank and all the clearances. that way you dont wash the bearings or spin them because of clearance issues.

to make sure what its bored a stock 454 is 4.250 bore if its 60 over it should measure 4.310 if you take some micrometers and measure it you can find out real quick what its bored.

Yeah, I've used charlie Ray before. when I build my VDub engine I had him check out the crank case to make sure it was still good to use. he's a good shit. if I had the parts to put the engine together I'd prolly take it to him to spec it. but I don't. so I'll have to wait. in the mean time, if anyone needs a short block big block, make an offer!
